It is July 1st, and I am not on track with my reading goals. I can count the number of books I have read this year, on just one hand. I used to blame the lack of time I had while I was in school as the sole reason as to why I did not read more, but I have accepted that it is simply a lack of discipline. The hardest challenge is getting started, because once I get sucked into a book, it doesn't take long for me to finish it (as long as it is well written and interesting).

Therefore, I have challenged myself to read 13 books during these last 26 weeks of 2015. A book every 2 weeks can be done, yes? These are the books I plan to read:

  1. Ghana Must Go -- Taiye Selasi
  2. We Need New Names -- NoViolet Bulawayo
  3. Tiny Sunbirds, Far Away -- Christie Watson
  4. A Different Sun -- Elaine Orr Neil
  5. Folktales from Africa: The Baboons Who Went This Way and That -- Alexander McCall Smith
  6. Lyrics Alley -- Leila Aboulela
  7. Harmattan -- Gavin Weston
  8. Wizard of the Crow -- Ngugi wa Thiongo
  9. Purple Hibiscus -- Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
  10. I Do Not Come to You By Chance -- Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani
  11. The Hairdresser of Harare -- Tendai Huchu
  12. Love is Power or Something Like That: Stories -- A. Igoni Barrett
  13. Harare North -- Brian Chikwava

Why don't you join me? Become a member of the African Millennial Book Club on Goodreads, and converse with me and other readers. Don't feel pressured to read all of these at my pace, everyone is pretty busy. However, I will announce when I plan on completing each book, so that you can join the conversation if you have already read the novel.
