Pylos Restaurant

I love Greek food. It may be my second favorite European cuisine, after Spanish. Therefore, it was only right that I checked out Pylos, a Greek restaurant in the Lower East Side.

This medium-sized restaurant had a lovely, inviting ambiance and was immediately calming with traditional Greek music beckoning one's attention, a safe haven from the grunge and activity outside. The dim setting was soothing and the ceiling of clay pots was spectacular.

On to the food: it was superb. I had the hoirino kotsi lemonato (lemon and herb pork shank with fingerling potatoes and leeks).

My boyfriend had the brizola (sirloin steak with fried potatoes and sauteed spinach).

Surprisingly, the portions were pretty big for a fine dining establishment. I could not finish my meal. Mine was a little on the salty side, so I don't know if I will get it again when I return, but the steak was perfect; succulent, braised just right and well-spiced. What I absolutely MUST try when I go back is a lamb dish...can't wait!
